Best Pharmaceuticals for Children Act (BPCA) Activities at the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD)

Implementation and coordination of the BPCA activities is a major activity for the NICHD’s Obstetric and Pediatric Pharmacology and Therapeutics Branch (OPPTB). The goal of the BPCA Program is to improve pediatric therapeutics through preclinical and clinical drug trials that lead to drug labeling changes.

The OPPTB is also responsible for developing and supporting a comprehensive national research and training effort to increase the knowledge base for treating diseases in pregnant women, infants, and children, using drugs that are appropriately tested within these target populations.
